Community Domes are community placemaking centers built around a multipurpose immersive dome theater that combines ticketed entertainment shows with activities that serve local communities. Ticketed shows are carefully chosen for positive social impact and include daytime family programming and spectacular evening entertainment. Community activities include civic events, creative placemaking activities and events supporting community well-being such as group meditations, immersive yoga, faith-based gatherings, and sound baths.
Vortex Community Domes can access a variety of proven positive-impact ticketed programming ranging from daytime family or educational experiences to evening entertainment films from WORLDS including Mesmerica and Beautifica. Custom signature shows can also be produced for tourist destinations.
Community Domes are also well suited to live performances by local bands, DJ/VJ dance lounge events and restorative experiences such as The Journey. Ticketed events assure positive cashflow for a sustainable facility.
Creative placemaking events include digital media workshops, drum circles, salons, open mic nights and more. Case studies include Petrichor, a creative placemaking event produced by the local Los Angeles ensemble, Sokamba, and the Create Now Digital Media Lab providing at-risk kids with a 6-week workshop in digital and immersive media production and public presentation of their work in the Vortex Dome.
Community domes can be pre-fabricated semi-permanent structures for rapid installation and minimal cost, or permanent brick-and-mortar venues with outdoor gardens and an adjacent visitor center including ticket kiosks, exhibits, activity spaces, ballroom, meeting rooms, offices, service bar, bathrooms and other facilities.
Vortex’s consulting architects are skilled in dome theater and community center design and can guide the architect of your choice to create a venue that supports you community’s needs.
